Jul. 17th, 2022 01:45 pmBloodroses are a rare bloom in the Lands Between, found only in places where great bloodshed has taken place. Varré's cult is particularly fond of them, taking them as a symbol of their Lord. Glory to his inevitable reign!
Bloodroses can be mixed with various ingredients to create medicines and poisons, which Varré will provide to the citizens of Trench for a fee. Bloodroses can help make poultices or swallowed medicines that protect against bleeding, or can inhibit clotting and therefore cause blood to run more freely. Whether you consider these medicines or poisons is entirely down to the dose.
Refined rose products can also create cursed-blood concoctions, which can cause berserker rage that drives others to attack anyone doused in the blood and rosewater mixture.
Roses can also be rendered down in great quantities to create rose oil, which can act as a powerful perfuming agent, or take on more potent medicinal properties similar to those above.
But that's not all these roses can do! There's also Sleeper bloodroses, created by watering roses with one of the Sleeper blood types. Cut stems of bloodroses can also be induced to take on new properties by standing them in blood-tinged water, but the effects will not be as dramatic.
Currently there is only one type available: Vileblood roses, thanks to the intervention of a minor Pthumerian. The scent of these roses is so strong that it can produce an intoxicated state, which Varré uses at his surgical practice to help calm his patients. The smell also repels beasts. Medicines made from these roses are powerful topical or injectable painkillers, but be warned! Vileblood roses are still toxic, and anyone who isn't a paleblood or vileblood should not ingest these products, or expose open wounds to an uncontrolled dose. If you are paleblood or vileblood, have at!
