Deer Country Housing

Few sane people remained in the Lands Between, and fewer had any sort of comfortable accommodations. Though there are grander and more modern houses in Lumenwood, this feels more like it could be a home.

Varré barely knows what to do with the place. The interior's going to remain quite spare for a while, simply having a roof over his head and doors with locks on them is an improvement over his previous situation.

However, he's made one addition to the outside of the house: beside the door, he's going to plant Bloodrose seeds, which he brought with him from the Lands Between.

These roses bloom anywhere blood's been spilled, and the red mist of Lumenwood succors them through their delicate first weeks of growth. As mature plants, their shiny leaves darken until they almost look like tarnished silver, while their stem remains a dark green. The thorns are up to a centimeter in length, red, and completely cover the stems so that there's no safe way to grab them bare-handed. A well-fed bloodrose can have blooms big enough to fill two cupped hands, with their size and color dependent on the quality of blood they've drunk. The flowers and rose hips can be used in medicinal preparations to halt bleeding, or in preparation of poisons that induce it.

This is Varré's declaration of his intent to stay--once they've sunk in their roots, weeding out bloodroses is a frightful task. Since his untimely death in July 2022, the roses grew fearsomely fast, and now cover the entire front of the house, and have used the supports beneath the top floor as a trellis, allowing them to lean out over the road. Varré has tamed them sufficiently so that the doors and windows are now accessible, and there's a new variety that's blooming where his body lay:

Pale roses tinged with green and pink, which have an overpowering fragrance. They've been fed vileblood, and anyone without resistance to its mind-altering effects may find themselves feeling strange after too long breathing in the scent. Varré's coaxed these roses to grow over the door to the surgery: they're useful for dealing with his patients.
